Key Details

A place of their own.

New 2 storey school satellite building to accommodate the academy’s 6th form.

With space in the main building at bursting point, the new facility was to provide flexible study spaces/ meeting rooms, a common room and ancillary facilities. Perhaps most important of all, the new structure was to set the 6th form apart from the younger years, both physically and figuratively. This was the reward for reaching the final stage of their path at the academy; a place they could call their own.

The facility also provided a means for reaching out to the wider community outside of school hours; a community centre.

The school’s ambition was to limit construction during term time. A structural insulated panel (SIP) system was selected so that the main shell could be manufactured off site, and rapidly assembled on site during the summer break. The assembled SIPs were then clad in cedar.
