The Sky Room.
Loft conversion providing bedroom with en suite, mezzanine to 1st floor bedroom, and lightwell with winder stair.
This is not just a room in the loft; we call it the ‘Sky Room’, as it boasts a wonderfully urban view from the dormer’s sliding doors (yes, instead of a window) across rooftops and treetops, a Mary Poppins style view at the front of the dwelling, and a view of the moon and stars through the roof light over the bed. The room is awash with light during the day, providing a lofty vantage point for watching the rolling clouds and twinkling lights at night.
Every nook has been utilised for storage, including an oak window seat, and a range of techniques employed to make the room feel as spacious as possible. Amongst these is the freestyle wardrobe and letting the ceiling descend to the skirting board.
However, some space was sacrificed to provide a mini atrium over the landing, allowing natural light from the rooflight to flood the space. White winder stairs reflect the light, providing a bright and dramatic ascent to the loft.
The loft conversion also offers the smallest bedroom a mezzanine, with its own stair and an internal window overlooking the atrium. A secret door gives access from the mezzanine into the loft bedroom.
